Behind the Bench with U13
The Southern Tier Admirals are proud to announce that Matt Catherwood will be returning to the bench to coach the U13 team. Welcome back, Coach Catherwood! We’re excited to have his energy and knowledge guiding our U13 Admirals this season.
Matt Catherwood is a former local AAA player who brings 11 years of minor hockey, and includes 5 years of coaching experience at the AAA level.
Having grown up in the region’s elite system, he understands both the demands and pride of AAA hockey. His coaching philosophy centers on skill development, structured team tactics, respect, and work ethic. He runs high-tempo, fundamentals-based practices that build skating, puck skills, and hockey IQ, while teaching players how to think and compete within a team system. In the 2024/25 season, he was part of the coaching staff that led the STA U11 team to an OMHA Championship title. Above all, he fosters accountability, character, and consistent effort, preparing athletes not only for the next level of hockey but for success beyond the game.
