he Championship was held in Hamilton over the weekend of Mar 16 to 18 The Southern Tier Admirals Minor Bantam AAA hockey club defeated the Hamilton jr. Bulldogs 5- 1 in the final to win their 3 Gold Medal at the omha's.
The Minor Bantam Admirals are made up of kids from the 7 centres in the southern tier (Welland/Thorold/ Pelham/ Port Colborne/ Wainfleet / Dunnville and Cayuga) This years Team also has children from St. Catherines and Flamborough. The Admirals had an spectacular regular season going (29w-1l-6t)
This was our sixth consective trip to the OMHA's (Three Gold / Two Bronze)
Last friday, The Admirals opened the round robin defeating the Hamilton jr bulldogs 2-0. Their second game the admirals Defeated the Clarington Toros 3-1. On Saturday, their first game resulted in a 1 - 1 tie with the York Simcoe Express. They rounded out the round robin defeating the Niagara North Stars 5-1.
This Qualified the Admirals for the finals against the Hamilton jr Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon. We won the game 5-1. The Admirals only allowed 4 goals against in the tournement. They also had 5 of the Top 10 point getters in the tournement.
York Simcoe defeated Niagara North 3-2 in the Bronze medal game
Chad Maurice was the tournement MVP, but even he would admit it was a total team effort to have this very sucessful weekend.
